Charismatic Gifts Debate - 2610 Words

Joshua Gaskin The Charismatic Gifts Debate Theo 350-D10 The issue of the whether or not the charismatic spiritual gifts are for today has caused much debate and division in the body of Christ. There are groups that say that if you do speak in tongues, then you are under demonic control and are not saved. On the other hand, some say that if you do not speak in tongues then you are not saved. What s more, both extremes use scripture to support their positions. Fortunately for the Christian church, whether or not the spiritual gifts are for today is not a salvation issue. Therefore, we need to be gracious. Romans 14:5 say, One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his†¦show more content†¦1:9) through the Holy Spirit s indwelling. We don t know in a full sense right now, even though we have the Bible, because we are still corrupted by our sin nature. In our fallen state we can only see Christ through sin-clouded eyes. We see a reflection of Christ in the Word. When Jes us returns the reflection of the truth will pass to clear understanding (the way childish thoughts give way to mature ones) when we receive our resurrected bodies, no longer have to battle sinful flesh, and can see Him face to face because we shall be like Him (1 John 3:2) and then, ...we shall know fully. The context of 1 Cor. 13:8-13 seems to show that the spiritual gifts will cease when Jesus returns. Interestingly, 1 Cor. 1:7 may be consulted here as well. It says, so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our lord Jesus Christ. The Greek word here for revealed is apokalupsis (Furnish 2006). It means the apocalypse, the return of Jesus. In both this verse and 1 Cor. 13:8-13 the gifts, which aren t differentiated as to kind, are connected to the return of Christ, not the completion of the Bible. In addition, the word gift in the Greek is charisma (Furnish 2006). This is where we get the word charismatic. The second argument are as follows; present day tongues are further revelation and must then be equal to Scripture and should be included in the Bible. However since the Bible is not to have anything added to it, the gift of tongues (andShow MoreRelatedCharismatic Gifts Debate Essay2769 Words   |  12 PagesCharismatic Gifts Debate By Mark Jones Theo 350-B05 September 26, 2010 1 The Charismatic Gifts Debate For my research paper I choose the charismatic gifts debate because coming from a Pentecostal/Charismatic background growing up in church, I know a little about the gift. Technology And The Internet And Technology - 1848 Words

Advances in human society and technology go hand in hand. The internet in particular has changed the world as we know it in the last two decades, but has it been for the better? The internet has been embedded into our everyday lives and has changed how we interact with people on a day-to-day basis. Comparing Christianity and Stoicism Essay - 3244 Words

Introduction Over the course of human history every society, even the most culturally isolated of civilizations, has developed some form of faith-system for interpreting and understanding the spiritual and material worlds. Thousands of such systems have existed over the centuries, and as tribes and cultures expanded, these faith-systems inevitably met each other face-to-face and clashed. Two thousand years ago there was a particularly important collision; one between the Roman stoic and the gentile Christian. At this time in Western civilization, Christianity was just planting its seeds and beginning to grow, whereas stoicism was already legitimate in its foundation and strong in its following (Stavrianos 100). One might wonder†¦show more content†¦In doing so, some fundamental conclusions can be drawn pertaining to the eventual succession of Christianity over stoic thought. Christianity and Stoicism: Logic, Physics, and Ethics In terms of logic, Christianity can be understood in three parts. Initially, there is the undeniable doctrine of â€Å"the Trinity,† which teaches that God, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments, actually exists in three persons. In essence, God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all at once. However, Jesus is not the Father, nor is he the Holy Spirit; He is separate, and yet they are all God. Mathematically this makes no sense. If one considers that God=A, God=B, and God=C, it logically follows that A=B=C. An intellectually honest person questions if the Trinity is truly logic at all. As a matter of fact, this particular dogma has no true Biblical origin. The concept of the Trinity does not even arise until the formation of the Nicene Creed (Metzger 90). This is interesting to note though, for it was primarily used to falsify the so-called â€Å"heretical† systems that rivaled it (Metzger 782). A second main tenant of Christian logic is the idea that the Bible is inerrant. In other words, all scripture is â€Å"God-breathed,† and as such, what is written was done so in accordance with His will, and thus, must be true (2Tim 3:16). Target Fraud Example

Essays on Target Fraud Article Target fraud Task: Target Corporation received reports that discounted retailers had suffered losses that were as a result ofbreach of security. The businesses became victims of massive data breach after their financial information systems were hacked. The company lost confidence of their customers and were worried that they would not meet their targets in the subsequent shopping periods (Germano 2013, p.1). The fraud which accounted to 20 days affected 40 million debit and credit cards. The company blamed some of its customers of lack of adherence to proper information system management. In fact, the required security standards were not met. The reported security breach that took place during the holiday season could have also led to loss of personal information. Customers that shopped in the period between November 27 and December 15 were warned by the retailers (The Canadian Press 2014, p.1). They received emails from the retailers that their security information were at risk and needed to be upgraded. In the investigations on the fraud, it was found that personal information like phone numbers, emails, addresses, names among others were stolen from the customers. The company asserted that the payment card breach did not affect the target stores. The report of the investigation was that personal information of 70 million customers were affected as well as 40 million debit and credit cards. However, the company said that personal information like dates of birth, debit card PIN numbers, and social security numbers were not accessed (The Canadian Press 2014, p.1). This implied that there was no indication that fraudulent cards were used to withdraw cash from automatic teller machines. Does is mean that there is anybody to pass the blame to? Obviously yes. Security requirements need to be complied with in order to enjoy maximum confidence. Target disclosed that the only data exposed during the breach of security were information that were embedded on the cards. These included security codes, names, debit card numbers, and credit card numbers. The thieves behind the event used malicious software to get information on the magnetic stripes on the cards. They timed customers at various point-of-sale terminals that belonged to Target (Target 2003, p.1). The affected financial institutions had taken the initiative of investigating whether the breach of security information could result to cases of fraud. Part of the blame was passed to banks in that they were to take the responsibility for the financial losses associated with the malicious activity. It followed that some institutions paid the affected companies the specified amount of compensation as a result of the incident of security breach at the various discount retailers. In connection with the incident, two people were arrested. With the assistance of Customs Enforcement and U.S Immigration, the two suspects were confirmed. It was found that they entered Texas in the same vehicle and proceeded to commit the crimes (Germano 2013, p.1). They were accused of production of fraudulent cards as well as acquisition of fraudulent account data. It is the responsibility of the affected individuals to upgrade their security systems and information to the required standard level. This is to ensure safety and confidence of information.
